Celebrating United Nations Day @ SAS

The picture is very dark (flash wasn't working)...but these are students carrying the American flag...the students let out a huge cheer!! To celebrate UN Day the 3rd grade had a student led assembly in the morning followed by a sampling of different foods from different countries. The students were encouraged to dress in native dress of their country.

Flag of Singapore! It received the 2nd loudest cheer!

Friends... Sabrina...her parents were born in Columbia but moved to the US in their teens and have been in Singapore 13 years. Sabrina was born in Singapore.
Aiyana and Sunita...they are from India and are wearing costumes native to their region of India. One is from Northern India and one if from Southern India...didn't know their was any difference until I moved here...the color of the skin tends to be darker but can't remember which region as well as customs and traditions.

Carington and Sabrina have become very close friends! Sabrina and her family go to the same church we do and are very strong Christians!!

Who's the woman in the burka?????

...it's Mrs. Brundage (Carington's teacher), she lived in Saudi Arabia for 26 years prior to moving to Singapore and this is what she wore when not on the American compound. Wow- I can't imagine...glad Singapore has more freedoms!!
