Living On Singapore Time...

Ooops, just as I thought...the pic is sideways...but you can get the idea. This picture was taken on January 12, 2008...Carington's first day of 2nd grade at the Singapore American School. Carington now wears a uniform to school everyday, which as a mom I LOVE!! They also have a special uniform they wear on PE days. There's no thinking or arguing about what to wear that day. It's not Carington's favorite thing but she's come around to the idea now that we have about 6 weeks left of school. This picture was taken when we lived in the service apartment.

Carington rides a bus to school. These are not your typical buses that we are accustomed to seeing in the US, they are air-conditioned motor coach buses! The bus picks her up in front of our condo each morning at 7am and drops her off at 3:45pm each day. The day at SAS is from 8am to 3pm. We live in the "city" part of the island and the school is located in the northern part of the island, so it's a bit of a commute. Carington listens to her IPOD, plays her DS or reads to pass the time on the bus. She enjoys riding the bus each day. And it has been a big step for me to let her ride the bus. I'm a mommmy who likes to have my babies right under my wing. In fact a lot of Singapore has been about letting go and trusting God!! And you know what, He's always been right there to give me peace or send a person to help and countless other ways!!

SAS is a wonderful school and we feel very fortunate that Carington was able to get in...some grades have a wait-list a mile long. The curriculum is challenging and they expect a lot of the students. She has a Mandarin Chinese class twice a week. Swimming is part of the PE curriculum. Each grade has a computer lab and science lab (each with teachers) that the students attend weekly. Her class consists of students from all over the world...what an opportunity!!

I'll try to get pictures of the school and her bus so that you can see.
