The following is a list of "new" words I've discovered while living in Singapore. Singapore was once a British Colony so the British influence is reflected in a lot of the sayings.
Trolley- is a grocery cart or a stroller
Pram- stroller
Lift- elevator
Way Out- exit
Give Way- yield
Hand Phone- cell phone
* All telephone numbers have 4 numbers at the beginning instead of 3 like in the states.
Que- line
* People will often ask, "Are you in que here"?
Querey- question
Carpark- parking garage
Biscuts- cookies
* We sure do miss our Grands biscuts on Saturday mornings. We make them with Bisquik now.
Chicken Mayonaise, Tuna Mayonaise etc.- is chicken salad and tuna salad
*Grocery shopping is very different here. NEVER take Target, Wal-Mart and the ability to drive up to the grocery store for granted. It is soooo convienent in the States. The grocery stores are located in the basement of a mall or in a shopping center and there is no easy or convienent way to go about grocery shopping. Space is very limited on the island so there are no parking lots to pull into, the carpark is either in the basement of the mall or on top of it. That was on the hardest things to get used to. Most people shop week to week or even day to day here. I was used to stocking up for a 2 week period of time.
Singlish- an Asian version of English and often hard to understand. You have to listen very closely.

So are you supposed to say trousers instead of pants? I was told once that pants in England means the same thing as underwear here. :) All those sayings make me want to go back to London! Someday, I hope! Love you!!
